The House Votes to Take Over Student Loans

Since I work in the field of higher education I am more tuned into the news regarding student loan funding.  We have been tracking the funding bills that have been coming up and this one seems to smack of too much government involvement.  An interesting article was posted this morning at Redstate.com on this very subject in regards to HR 3221.

From RedState.com:

If you want an indication of just how radical the Democrats in Congress have become, consider the vote on H.R. 3221. The legislation, which I wrote about yesterday, shuts down all private lenders for higher education student loans, requires that colleges and universities adhere to a new federal bureaucracy, creates a new Green Schools Czar, and hints that any school not complying will see its students denied federal student loans.

Last year, Congress passed the Ensuring Continued Access to Student Loans Act (ECASLA). The bill passed in the House 388-21, including 221-0 among Democrats. The Senate passed it by unanimous consent. President Bush signed it. The legislation was a bi-partisan piece of legislation that allowed private sector involvement in student loans without a new federal bureaucracy.

This year, the Republican substitute to HR 3221 would extend ECASLA programs through 2014 and create a commission to develop a new private sector model for student lending. The amendment failed 165-265. 257 Democrats unanimously voted no.

Final passage of HR 3221 was 253-171. 4 Democrats voted no, 6 Republicans vote aye.

The Democrats have now rejected the same legislation they unanimously supported last year in favor of a new, expansive federal bureaucracy.

Some of you may say, “so what, the government is already involved in backing funding for the Stafford program.”  This may be true, but what this will do is give total control of the student loan system to the Fed eliminating any choice by students.  Why was the original legislation a good idea last year but all of a sudden the previous vote meant nothing?  Ahh, you have to just love politics!

Congresswoman Diane Watson is a Lovin’ on Fidel Castro

I really hope this type of idiocy is a minority opinion amongst liberal politicians.

How are these people elected?  If I lived in her district I might run as a democrat to get this lady out of office. (just kidding)

I wonder what Ms. Watson would think of a conservative leaning black American running for the highest office.

Of course, this is just my opinion.

Obama Email Scandal Expanding

Perusing the Gateway Pundit blog, I noticed this story highlighting the recent email scandal at the White House.

From the Gateway Pundit:

Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-MI) was on FOX News this morning with Eric Shawn to discuss the White House spamming scandal. The White House paid GovDelivery in Minnesota with US taxpayer money to send out spam emails promoting Obama’s unpopular health care rationing program.

The email lists were even provided by the White House although the Obama Administration originally denied this.

Rep. McCotter wants the White House to come clean on this growing scandal that involves using taxpayer money to promote the president’s unpopular government takeover of the health care industry:

I believe this ties together very nicely with the government snitch program.

Of course, this is just my opinion.

Larouche Plant Disrupts Frank Town Hall Meeting

thehitlersignIt seems that the Town Hall format has become yet another tool of the left to try and make conservatives look like kooks.  Many of the Hitler references seem to be coming from a single source – Larouche PAC.   A great example of this organization and it’s supporters is highlighted in one of the Town Hall meetings held by Democratic Representative Barney Frank.

I’ll bet most people know very little about Lyndon LaRouche other than the name.    The LaRouche history really begins with the democratic party and veers off in a goofy direction.  He has run for President a variety of times and his views tend to go the fascism direction.  Overall, these people that support LaRouche are more often on the left end of the spectrum – pretty far left.  They are not mainstream within the left wing, they are left wing kooks.  Probably left of left wing kooks.

I think the comparisons of Obama to Hitler are plain idiotic and should be put on the crazy train (sorry Ozzy).  We could have a discussion on if certain policies mimic those of Germany in the early part of the century, but calling him a Nazi is a little off kilter.

The curious thing I see is that the news programs and stories that I have watched and read don’t really delve into what a Lyndon LaRouche supporter believes.  Maybe I’m a conspiracy nut, but it would seem to the average viewer that this is just another right-wing GOP zealot hell-bent on creating a ruckus at a Town Hall meeting.   Am I wrong on this one?

Of Course, this is just my opinion.

Is Russ Carnahan Really This Stupid?

The Health Care debate has definitely heated up over the congressional recess.  St. Louis has become a hot bed of activity since the beating of a conservative at a recent event by members of the SEIU union that attended the event in support of Rep. Carnahan.  One blog called these guys Union Thugs, I think I agree with that sentiment.

On Friday of this week, Jamie Allman, a local morning talk show host from 97.1 FM Talk, attended a secret press conference where Rep. Carnahan blamed the right-wing extremists for causing problems at his Town Hall event.  When pressed by Mr. Allman, Rep. Carnahan had no real answers and slinked back into political mode.  I actually thought Rodney King was going to pop up and shout, “Can’t we all just get along?”

From The Gateway Pundit:

Carnahan first claimed that the SEIU members may not have beenhis supporters.  Carnahan announced this morning that the GOP was behind the violence.  He also accused Minority Leader John Boehner of instigating the violence(?)

So Rep. Carnahan, you have no idea that a man, a black man, was beaten by the SEIU “Security Force” that you brought in to “control” the unruly crowd.  Are you blind or just plain stupid.  I wonder what would have happened if there were conservatives beating a black member of the SEIU – or any other citizen.  I’ll tell you what would happen, it would be on every newspaper from here to Oxnard.  As it stood on Friday, they had to have a “secret” press conference.

My only regret is I don’t live in your district so I have no say-so in your demise.

Of course, this is just my opinion

Town Hall Protesters Carrying Swastikas?

Evidently I have been watching the wrong coverage of all the Town Hall meetings occurring around the country over the past couple of weeks.  Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi says that these protesters are “carrying swastikas and symbols like that…”  Really Ms. Pelosi?  Show me the signs!

I’m sure this is just like the mantra those on the left are saying about the motivations of the protesters.   They just couldn’t be average citizens, there has to be some type of organization.  Maybe there are organizations that would like to organize the unheard masses that oppose government run  , but so what?  I’ve been to several protests around my area and I’ve never been approached to attend any event – even with this right leaning website I run.  Don’t you think I might be someone that would be used to rally support – if that was really the case?  It is my opinion that the only paid protest people are the Acorn folks.

What are these guys so afraid of? They have a majority in both houses of Congress – a super majority in the Senate and the White House.  They don’t need the Republicans (in theory) to pass anything they want.  Obama, Pelosi and Reid can ram through all they want until they are voted out of their positions.

These events show the elitism of those that are complaining and a disregard for the electorate.  What do those common folks about the intricacies of health care anyway?

Of course, this is just my opinion.

Health Care Legislation: The Natives Are Restless

I knew the break for congress would be a little testy – for them.  We are starting to see video from town hall meetings where average citizens are standing up and making their voices heard.

Russ Carnahan from St.  Louis had his turn also:

Same way with Steve Kagen from Wisconsin:

I could go on and on posting video, but the message is the same.

How does the DNC (Democratic National Committee) respond?  In typical fashion.  See the new ad below:

Let me get this straight…it’s a first amendment right for protesters on the left to disagree with a Republican president, but it’s civil disobedience and mob mentality for common sense citizens (from both sides of the aisle) that are fed up with the congressional malpractice.  Hmmm.  Just wanted to make sure I had things correct.

Note to all members of Congress, it’s not going to be a fun break.  The best thing you can do is hide in your bunker and count the days until you get to go back to Washington.  Maybe you won’t hear “Read the Bill, Read the Bill, Read the Bill,” in your sleep.  I can only hope you will.

Of course, this is just my opinion.
